UPMC Specimen Coordinator in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Do you have Specimen Processing experience in a clinical setting? Are you looking for the next step in your laboratory career? UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring a full-time Specimen Coordinator to join the Automated Testing Lab team! This individual will work a daylight shift schedule of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of specimen collection requirements and shipping protocols for outside laboratories; facilitates specimen handling and shipping related to research or study protocols.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of specimen packaging and transport requirements; maintains required biohazard shipping certification.

  • Follows regulatory and departmental requirements and procedures for identifying laboratories of reference testing and dispatch of specimens; maintains accurate records of requests and reports.

  • Orders and accessions tests in the laboratory information system; enters and retrieves results as required; maintains department databases or electronic files as required.

  • Interacts with laboratory customers and outside reference laboratories courteously and professionally; responds to telephone inquiries promptly.

  • Monitors and maintains supplies for those functions for which the position is responsible; cost-effectively uses materials.

  • Monitors and maintains laboratory specimen storage systems, ie. refrigerators, and freezers. Maintains records and retrieves specimens as requested.

  • Demonstrates independent judgment and recognizes priorities to accommodate department needs and acceptance of appropriate authority.

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • 1 year of clinical laboratory specimen processing experience is strongly preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
