UPMC Manager, Infection Prevention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The manager is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the assigned Infection Control team. Assumes a leadership role in assuring infection control initiatives, process improvement efforts, and staff and patient education, meet all infection control standards and regulations for assigned hospitals. The manager is responsible for the management and day to day operations of the infection control departments for the assigned facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Member of the infection control committees and other related committees that require infection control input

  • Assumes a leadership role in the development and implementation of process improvement opportunities and education related to clinical practice that support organizational goals, and related infection control practices

  • Develops relationships both internally and externally to integrate and share best infection control practices across settings.

  • Partners with leadership at assigned locations and the System to design and implement organizational strategies to achieve safe, quality standards within infection control

  • Coordinates and assures surveillance of hospitals to generate infection statistics through review of medical records, and other significant data for review at committee meetings

  • Oversees all operations of the assigned infection control departments including hiring, performance development, training and all other competencies

  • Interacts with other departments of the assigned facilities to assure infection control standards are met

  • Assures appropriate care and services for patients and families through interdisciplinary partnerships and consultation of hospital staff and other members of the health care team through participation on committees and other related activities.

  • Initiates change, incorporates hospital cultures, and best practice to standardize infection control practices across campuses

  • Oversees and monitors all infection control practices for both campuses, including appropriate isolation, hand hygiene, regulatory functions and standards related to infection control practices etc.

  • Oversees infection control staff at assigned campuses to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and to employ national best practices for patient safety

  • Assures that all necessary policies and procedures are in compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Serves as the overall internal and external resource for infection control activities at assigned campuses

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Medical Technology or related field required.

  • Master's degree preferred or certification required in field of expertise.]

  • 5 years of infection control experience required.

  • CIC certificiation preferred.

  • Previous Management Experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Current Certified in Infection Control (CIC) certification required. Registered Nurses are required to maintain current RN licensure.
