UPMC Family Development Specialist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's Family Care Connection (FCC) is hiring a Family Development Specialist who will work out of the Hilltop Family Care Connection at 1630 Arlington Avenue in Pittsburgh.

Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) has established a network of 27 family support centers of which UPMC Children's Family Care Connection (FCC) has 6 centers located in neighborhoods that are under served. This network will provide family support direct social supports service to families with children from birth to 18 years old from diverse backgrounds according to the level of need to a population of serious and persistent consumers. DHS Family Support Network has embarked on a process to serve more families, from 2020-2030. The guiding principles are to create a network that would serve more families, in the ways the families find value, through strengthened and effective partnerships, and to achieve measurable goals. The primary function of the Family Development Specialist is to meet the family where they are and provide these prevention services to help encourage families to establish personal goals, cope with challenges of residing in high need communities, and establish habits and behaviors that yield positive outcomes for their families.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and facilitate early childhood education 2 (two) days a week (3 hr.) program using Pennsylvania Education Standards and Parents and Teachers Evidence Based Curriculum

  • Responsible for caseload servicing approximately 25 to 40 families, both home visiting and/or non-home visiting

  • Complete a minimum of 1 (one) home visit per month utilizing evidenced-based curriculum models.

  • Plan and facilitate parent leader/men connection groups.

  • Implement 2 (two) child development screenings per child served per year using appropriate developmental tools.

  • Maintain the family support center site and ensure welcoming atmosphere.

  • Provides case management services including goal planning, service brokerage, advocacy, referral, and support.

  • Participate in outreach/recruit for program.

  • Provide crisis intervention and/or referrals for families.

  • Attend minimum of twenty (20) hours of job-related trainings annually.

  • Maintain files and complete all management information system paperwork accurately as required in a timely manner.

  • Transport families to programming, well-baby visits, mental health sessions, etc. when possible.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree/Associate's degree in Human Services or related field with 2 years of experience.

  • Experience in home visiting is preferred.

  • Knowledge of county social service systems.

  • Understand the FCC and County protocol for mandated reporters.

  • Sensitivity to work with a multi-cultural community. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Within 30 days of hire CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Driver's License
