UPMC Clinical Support Specialist/ Transport | Western Psychiatric Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Purpose:

The Clinical Support Specialist I is responsible for the sorting, preparation, delivery, and pickup of mail and supplies. They transport and assist patients. The Clinical Support Specialist also provide support as necessary for a patient care unit as directed by the manager, or designee, using specified procedures.

This is a Union position with a set pay rate of $14.74.

Responsibilities:

  • Sort and prepare mail and packages in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Prepare and process mail and packages delivered to the hospital.

  • Prepare all outgoing mail and packages.

  • Ensures signed documentation is obtained when required in connection with items received or sent from the hospital.

  • Ensures deliveries are completed to all WPH facilities in a timely manner.

  • Handles all telephone requests in a professional manner.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of the health systems departments and locations.

  • Displays a professional and courteous manner during interactions with all hospital personnel and patients.

  • Pick up and deliver equipment and supplies as directed to locations within and outside of the hospital.

  • Transport and/or escort patients, clinical staff members, etc. to and from various facilities via the hospital’s vehicle or by wheelchair/stretcher or other means; assist in placing and removing patients in and out of the vehicle, wheelchair, bed, or stretcher.

  • Adhere to hospital policies and procedure regarding vehicle maintenance (identify and promptly report mechanical problems, maintain cleanliness of the inside of the Institute vehicle).

  • Drive van to and from various facilities and perform delivery and pick up services as assigned.

  • Attain a working knowledge of and comply with all clinical and administrative policies and procedures.

  • Obtain and deliver various supplies; cleans wheelchairs and stretchers.

  • Promptly report to the Department Manager or designee any new information or problems encountered in the performance of duties.

  • Keep accurate and concise records in accordance with policies and procedures.

  • Comply with the dress code and grooming for position.

  • Perform escort duties as assigned and comply with the following: (1) report to the nurses station on the inpatient unit prior to escorting a patient and obtain a report from the Charge Nurse/designee; (2) inform Charge Nurse on the inpatient unit of the general condition of the patient; changes in patient's behavior or other relevant information which occurred during escort transport; (3) observe patients and report to nursing staff any changes in general physical and mental condition, signs which may indicate danger to self or others and other relevant information; (4) Assist in ensuring that patients being transported get assistance with necessary physical care by obtaining staff to assist the patient with such tasks as cleaning, dressing, and toileting.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor. Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Computer experience preferred.

  • Work history must have evidence of dependability.

  • One year of data entry/clerical experience preferred.

  • Previous driving experience.

  • Ability to communicate adequately, in English, both verbally and in writing.

  • The incumbent must be physically capable of providing direct physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent, mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running toward or away from areas where problems are occurring and pushing and pulling equipment such as wheelchairs and stretchers.

  • May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport patients who are receiving intravenous medications.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • A valid PA driver's license is required.

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)

  • Driver's License

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
