The 2300 Cardiac Care and Telemetry Unit is looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to add to their team!

We are looking for a candidate who is highly motivated, positive, a team-player, and invested in their learning and development as a nurse!

Sign-On Bonus Details:

$7500 sign-on bonus available for nurses with 1 or more years of experience.

$5000 sign-on bonus available for graduate nurses.

Candidates hired into a sign-on bonus eligible role will be asked to make a two-year work commitment.

The 2300 Unit is a 31-bed unit that provides care for a variety of patients, including, but not limited to: CHF, Heart Attacks, and Cardiac Arrythmias. This provides our Professional Staff Nurses with the opportunity to always be learning and improving. The staff in our 2300 unit is a very diverse and eclectic group that support one another for the collaborative goal of the patient’s well-being. This is a good unit for nurses to learn a variety of different skills to increase their knowledge base. The staff in our 2300 unit have great teamwork and work among some of the most experienced nurses!

Purpose:

Under direction of a registered nurse, provide routine patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Assure equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department. Establish appropriate and effective communication strategies. Establish professional and respectful interpersonal relationships. Participate in health care conferences. Contribute to the universal unit activities including, but not limited to, responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays and transporting patients.

  • Assist the RN and interdisciplinary team in evaluating, planning, and implementing plans of care. Provide appropriate, direct patient care. Give injections, take vital signs, perform basic diagnostic tests, observe patients, dress wounds and administer medication. Comply with established medication use policies. Observe and record patient's symptoms, condition, and/or reactions to medications and treatments and report results to the RN in charge. Communicate effectively with patients and families about hospital stay and home care concerns. Instruct and demonstrate care. Discuss any patient or family concerns with RN in charge so that issue can be appropriately addressed. Perform assigned work in a timely and productive manner. Strictly adhere to all policies and practices relative to patient care and hospital-related information. Comply with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions.

  • Maintain current CPR certification at Health Care Provider level. Constructively receive feedback and direction. Identify and communicate learning needs to the unit director. Take action to improve knowledge, skills and performance based on feedback or on self-identified developmental needs. Serve as a resource for staff and other disciplines. Serve as a preceptor for new staff members. Request assistance and reviews relevant policies and procedures prior to performing new or challenging skills. Request assistance to help in planning and prioritizing activities as needed. Participate in self-review as requested by unit director. Participate in project and committee work.

  • Suggest and support changes within the department. Assume responsibility for assignment and view problems as challenges. Demonstrate awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • Successful completion and graduation from a Licensed Practical Nursing Program approved by the State Board of Nursing.

  • 0 – 2 years of experience.

  • Successful completion of an IV therapy curriculum required within 4 months of hire/transfer. Must commit to obtain within 4 months of hire/transfer within 30 days of start. If graduated in 2012 to present day, IV therapy curriculum is included in the PA State Board Approved Programs. If graduated prior to 2012, the LPN will need to provide official proof of completion of IV therapy approved program.

  • Must take nurse assignment at the top of LPN license in a med/surg/tele or Emergency Department setting.

  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities to improve patient care and encompasses collaboration with the health care team and the patients and families to achieve desired patient outcomes.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients. Computer skills required to utilize the electronic health record.

Senior Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • Successful completion and graduation from a Licensed Practical Nursing Program approved by the State Board of Nursing.

  • 2 years of experience required.

  • Successful completion of an IV therapy curriculum required within 4 months of hire/transfer. Must commit to obtain within 4 months of hire/transfer within 30 days of start. If graduated in 2012 to present day, IV therapy curriculum is included in the PA State Board Approved Programs. If graduated prior to 2012, the LPN will need to provide official proof of completion of IV therapy approved program.

  • Must take nurse assignment at the top of LPN license in a med/surg/tele or Emergency Department setting.

  • Must select and complete 2 contributions annually that will assist in improving patient care OR must have and maintain a UPMC approved certification and also select and complete 1 contribution.

  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities to improve patient care and encompasses collaboration with the health care team and the patients and families to achieve desired patient outcomes.

  • Participates in the development, revision and implementation of policies and procedures designed to insure comfort and safety of patients in collaboration with other health care personnel.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients. Computer skills required to utilize the electronic health record.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

LPN must maintain state licensure where they are practicing or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located. If graduated prior to 2012, the LPN will need to provide official proof of completion of IV therapy approved program within 4 months of hire/transfer. Basic Life Support OR Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
