UPMC Phlebotomist in Lititz, Pennsylvania

UPMC Lititz is seeking to hire an evening shift Phlebotomist to support hospital patients 12:00 PM-8:30 PM. No weekends required! The selected candidate must commit to working 2 holidays per year.

Purpose:

The Phlebotomist performs phlebotomy and specimen collection of inpatients and/or outpatients. Samples collected by the phlebotomist are used for laboratory test procedures that are essential in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The Phlebotomist may also perform computer, courier, and clerical functions that are essential to laboratory operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Interact courteously and professionally with laboratory patients.

  • Procure blood specimens through venipuncture, heel stick, and fingerstick.

  • Instruct patients on specimen collection procedures.

  • Transport specimens to appropriate sections following safety protocols.

  • Perform related clerical duties and enter information accurately.

  • Train new employees and report unusual incidents.

  • May perform arterial punctures.

  • Maintain supplies efficiently.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program preferred.

  • 6 months experience performing phlebotomy preferred.

  • Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
